FluenC is a personal-finance education app that teaches budgeting, financial scams, saving, banking, credit, investing, taxes and related topics through short lessons and quizzes. This policy describes exactly what the FluenC app and website collect and how that data is handled.
1. Information we collect
We only collect what the app needs to run. There is no advertising, no ad identifiers, no location tracking, no contacts access, no camera or microphone access, no background audio, and no third-party analytics or attribution SDK in FluenC.
Account information
Email address and password — used to create your account, verify that the address is yours, sign you in, and send password-reset emails. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes by our authentication provider; we never see or store your plaintext password.
Display name — the name you type at sign-up or edit later, shown to you in the app and to people you connect with in Friend Circle.
Account identifiers — an internal user ID, plus a short public sharing code used so friends can find you deliberately without exposing your email.
Account role — Personal, Student or Teacher, chosen at sign-up.
Optional school details — school name, grade level or subject, only if you enter them for a Student or Teacher account.
Sign-in methods
FluenC uses email and password sign-in only. There is no Google, Facebook or other social sign-in, so no social network receives or provides any data about you.
Learning data
Which lessons and units you have completed, and which you completed without a mistake.
Quiz and Unit Challenge results: scores, totals, whether you passed, and which questions you answered incorrectly (kept so the Mistake Review page can re-teach them).
Pre-assessment result and the recommended starting unit.
Hint balance and hint history: which lesson question a hint was revealed for, and unit-completion hint refills, so revealed hints stay free and refills are granted once.
Bookmarked lessons, questions and glossary terms.
Recent lesson activity used to build your weekly report.
Lesson feedback: your “Helpful / Not helpful” vote on a lesson, stored with your user ID so you can change your own vote.
Preferences
Language choice (English, Spanish, Hindi or Mandarin).
Appearance and accessibility settings: light/dark theme, accessibility mode (larger text and touch targets) and colour-vision mode.
Whether you have finished or skipped the guided tutorial.
Friend Circle
Friend Circle is optional. If you use it we store: friend requests you send or receive, accepted friendships, invite links you generate (a random token, expiry and use count), users you have blocked, reports you submit about another user, and a short rate-limit log of your lookup, request and invite actions to prevent abuse. QR codes are generated on your device from your own invite link; no image is uploaded.
Classroom data (Student and Teacher accounts)
Teachers can create classes (class name and a join code) and assignments (title, description, lesson list, due date). Students who enter a join code create a class membership, and their assignment progress (status, score, completion time) is visible to that class’s teacher. Students not in a class have no classroom data.
Technical information
To serve the app and keep it secure, our hosting and backend providers process standard request data such as IP address, request time, requested URL, user-agent and authentication tokens, and short-lived server logs. Your browser or device also stores your session token, language and appearance settings and a translation cache locally so the app works without a round trip. In the hosted web build, uncaught application errors may be reported to our hosting provider’s error monitoring for diagnostics; those reports contain the error message, stack trace and the page path, not your lesson answers.
2. How we use information
To create and authenticate your account, confirm your email address, and keep you signed in.
To save your progress so it follows you across devices.
To personalise learning: recommend the next lesson, unlock units after you pass a Unit Challenge, re-teach missed questions, and show your weekly report.
To operate hints and bookmarks.
To show the app in your chosen language with your accessibility settings.
To let you connect with people you choose in Friend Circle, and to enforce blocking, reporting and rate limits.
To let teachers assign lessons and see their own students’ assignment progress.
To improve lesson content in aggregate using “Helpful / Not helpful” feedback.
To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose errors.
We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising or profiling, and we do not use your personal data to train AI models.
3. Service providers / third parties
These are the only third parties that process FluenC data:
Our managed cloud backend — authentication, database and transactional auth email (sign-up confirmation and password reset). Processes your account information, learning data, preferences, Friend Circle and classroom records.
Our application host — application hosting, server-side app logic and error monitoring for the web build. Processes technical request data and error reports.
Our AI translation gateway (a Google Gemini model) — used to translate FluenC’s own authored lesson and interface text into Spanish, Hindi and Mandarin. Only app content strings are sent; your name, email, answers, progress and Friend Circle data are never sent to the translation service.
If you install the app from Google Play or the App Store, that store handles the download, installation and update process under its own privacy policy.
4. Data sharing
With other users: your display name and public sharing code are visible to people you send a friend request to, receive one from, or are connected with. Nothing else — not your email, progress or answers — is shared with other learners.
With teachers: if you join a class with a code, that class’s teacher can see your display name and your progress on their assignments.
With the providers listed above, only to run the service on our behalf.
For legal reasons, if we are legally required to disclose information, or to investigate abuse or a security incident.
We do not share or sell data with advertisers, brokers or analytics networks.
5. Data security
All traffic between the app and our backend is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
Data is encrypted at rest by our cloud database provider.
Row-level security policies restrict every database table so an account can only read and write its own records; classroom and Friend Circle access is granted only through explicit relationships.
Passwords are stored only as salted hashes by our authentication provider. Privileged credentials and service keys exist only on the server and are never included in the app or website code.
Sensitive operations, including account deletion, run on the server and act only on the account proven by your verified session token.
No online service can promise absolute security, but we work to protect your data.
6. Data retention
Account, progress, preference, Friend Circle and classroom records are kept for as long as your account exists.
When you delete your account, those records are deleted from our live database immediately (see the next section). Encrypted infrastructure backups may retain copies for a short rolling window, normally up to 30 days, after which they expire.
Server and security logs held by our hosting and backend providers are short-lived and typically expire within days.
What we intentionally keep after deletion: a compliance record of the deletion itself — the email address used to request it, a timestamp and its status — so we can demonstrate the request was honoured and to prevent abuse of the deletion endpoint. It contains no lesson, progress or Friend Circle data.
Translated app-content strings are cached without any link to a user, so nothing about you remains in that cache.
7. Account and data deletion
You can delete your FluenC account yourself, at any time, in two ways. Deletion is permanent and is not the same as signing out.
In the app: Account → “Delete account permanently”, then confirm.
On the web, without installing the app: visit the account deletion page linked at the bottom of this policy.
Deleting your account removes your login, display name, role and school details, all lesson and unit progress, quiz and Unit Challenge results, missed-question history, hint history and hint balance, bookmarks, preferences, tutorial state, lesson feedback, friendships, friend requests, invite links, blocks and reports, and — for teachers — the classes and assignments you created, along with their memberships and stored assignment progress. Deleting a student account removes that student from their classes. Other users’ own accounts and progress are never affected.
If you cannot sign in, the deletion page also accepts a deletion request tied to your email address, which we process manually. For your protection that form never confirms whether an address has a FluenC account.
8. Children’s and young users’ privacy
FluenC teaches personal finance to teens and young adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13, and we do not show advertising or use behavioural profiling for any user. Where a school or teacher invites students, the school is responsible for obtaining any parental consent required in its jurisdiction. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at the privacy address above and we will delete it.
9. International users
FluenC is available internationally and our cloud providers may process and store data in countries other than yours, including the United States. By using FluenC you understand your data may be transferred to and processed in those countries under this policy. Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent; you can exercise deletion yourself at any time using the options above, or contact us for other requests.
10. Changes to this privacy policy
If we change how FluenC handles data, we will update this page and revise the effective and last-updated dates at the top. Material changes will also be surfaced in the app so you can review them before continuing to use FluenC.
11. Contact / privacy questions
For privacy questions or data requests, contact the privacy address listed at the top of this policy. We aim to respond within 30 days.
Delete your account
You can request or complete deletion on the web, without installing the app.
